I used to think it was foolish of songs to say that they would sell everything for their lover. But I have never been in love with another person. The bible says men are too love their wives like Christ loved the church and women are to submit to their husbands. I find this puzzling and quite beautiful. Christ desires that we submit to him and trust him completely, and this seems the plight of the man who desires his wife to not fight him on every decision, but to trust his decisions as to bring her goodness and not harm, and to simply believe in him and the work he has done. This is why Christ was slightly annoyed with his disciples, after they had seen so much of his work and still didn’t believe. In return the church desires to KNOW Christ loves her, that he will never leave or abandon her despite her lack of trust, and that her husband accepts her for who she is but loves her too much to not help her grow. So it is only probable that a woman has to be reassured that her husband loves her not by a laundry list of things he does (which are good, please do not stop doing these things, there appreciated lol), BUT by his promises and his ability to fulfill them, by his affectionate response similar to that of “ I have loved you with an everlasting love and will never leave or forsake you” Then proceed to remind her of the things you have done..like “I died on the cross for your sins, because I loved you that much.” Sounds a lot better than I wake up every morning and go to work, don’t I? Both partners desire above all- to be treasured, to sell everything for their lover. This is more than a feeling, an intellectual acceptance of facts, this my friends is perfect love, worth a thousand foolish love songs.
